MARCH FOR TRUTH CALLS ON DONALD TRUMP TO RECONSIDER HIS PLANNED PRIVATE MEETING WITH VLADIMIR PUTIN

AFTER INDICTMENTS OF RUSSIAN INTELLIGENCE OFFICIALS ON FRIDAY, THE PRESIDENT SHOULD EITHER PLAN TO CONFRONT PUTIN OVER ELECTION INTERFERENCE OR CANCEL THE HELSINKI SUMMIT

WASHINGTON, DC-- After Friday’s indictments of 12 members of Russian military intelligence for hacking, stealing and releasing information from Donald Trump’s political opponents in order to help him win the 2016 election, it is imperative that the White House reconsider the President’s planned Monday meeting in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin, #MarchForTruth demands today.

March For Truth has three specific demands:

  • President Trump must not meet with Vladimir Putin alone. Other Americans must be present- preferably with bipartisan representation.

  • President Trump must agree to directly confront Vladimir Putin over Russian interference in the sovereignty of American elections.

  • President Trump must make clear to Vladimir Putin that the United States will retaliate for further election interference, such as in the 2018 midterm elections.

This President, who continues to cast doubt on the conclusions of American intelligence agencies and now the FBI, cannot be trusted to meet alone with the Russian President while the Russia investigation is still incomplete. The indictments Friday leave open the possibility that Americans will soon be named as collaborators in the Russian interference operation. Friday’s indictments confirm:

  • Russian intelligence released the stolen information through Russian cutouts Guccifer 2.0, DCLeaks.com and an unnamed entity that is very likely Wikileaks.

  • They hacked and stole voter information from 500,000 Americans.

  • They created a fake website to siphon off donations from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

  • They targeted voter file information at the Democratic National Committee.

The indictments establish that the hacking and release of information was a crime, which means that any Americans who participated or had knowledge have also committed a crime. Until the investigation is complete, the President’s interactions with the Russian head of state must not happen in private.

March for Truth is participating in a coalition planning a series of events at sundown on Wednesday, July 18th all around the country to Confront Corruption and Demand Democracy. Americans in 70+ cities will stand in vigil and call for solutions to fix our system. More information at www.confrontcorruption.org.
